Psychotherapy
A Space to Talk, Reflect, and Create Change
Psychotherapy – sometimes called talk therapy – is more than just conversation. It’s a collaborative process where you can share your thoughts and emotions, explore the patterns that are keeping you stuck, and learn practical skills to help you move forward.
I believe deeply in people’s ability to change. My role is to provide a safe, grounded, and supportive space where that change can happen – whether you’re navigating loss, managing anxiety, processing trauma, or simply feeling “off” and wanting to understand why.

How I Work in Psychotherapy
I draw from several evidence-based approaches to tailor each session to your needs:
- Motivational Interviewing (MI) – Helps uncover what matters most to you and builds your internal motivation for change.
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) – Identifies and reshapes unhelpful patterns of thinking and behavior.
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) – Teaches skills for distress tolerance, emotional regulation, mindfulness, and improving relationships.
- Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) – Focuses on building solutions and strengths rather than getting lost in problems.
You won’t get a one-size-fits-all plan here. I combine the right strategies for your goals, at your pace, in a way that fits your life.
The Research Behind the Methods
While I approach therapy with warmth and curiosity, our work is rooted in solid evidence:
- CBT has been shown in numerous studies — including research from SAMHSA — to be highly effective for a wide range of issues, helping people challenge unhelpful thoughts and behaviors.
- DBT was originally developed for people experiencing intense emotions or at risk for self-harm. Research shows it can significantly improve emotion regulation, coping skills, and relationship stability.
- Motivational Interviewing is widely recognized as an effective, adaptable method for encouraging meaningful behavior change across many settings.
Why Psychotherapy at Carruthers Therapy Feels Different
Here, you don’t have to come in with all the answers or a perfectly prepared “story” about what’s going on. We’ll take it step by step — creating a space where you can think out loud, get curious about your patterns, and experiment with new ways of showing up in the world.
It’s professional, but it’s also personal. Because real healing happens when you feel comfortable enough to be yourself.
